Professor Nie Shaoping Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Recently, Professor Nie Shaoping from Nanchang University was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and received the Fellow certificate in person.

Founded in 1841, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is one of the world’s oldest academic institutions and among the most authoritative and influential organizations in the international chemical community. Each year, through rigorous selection and expert recommendations, the RSC honors outstanding researchers worldwide who have made remarkable achievements in chemistry, materials science, and interdisciplinary research with the title of Fellow.

Nie Shaoping, a Member of the Communist Party of China, holds a doctoral degree and serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor. He is currently a Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Nanchang University. His concurrent positions include Member of the 8th Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council for Food Science and Engineering, Member of the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education in Food and Nutrition, Associate Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Founding Editor-in-Chief of Food Frontiers, Editorial Board Member of Food Science and Human Wellness, Journal of Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, and other journals, as well as Director of the Council of the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology.

His main research focuses on food chemistry and nutrition, food safety and analysis—with a particular emphasis on the research and development of new products related to complex carbohydrates in food (primarily bioactive polysaccharides and dietary fiber), as well as food components and the precise regulation of nutritional health. As the first author or corresponding author (including co-corresponding author), he has published over 300 academic papers, which have been cited 26,694 times totally (with an h-index of 78). He has been repeatedly named a Clarivate “Highly Cited Researcher” and an Elsevier “Highly Cited Scholar in China”. Additionally, he has edited 8 books and obtained 45 authorized invention patents.

Professor Nie has presided over more than 30 projects, including Key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key International (Regional) Cooperative Research Projects, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and projects under the National Key Research and Development Program. He has won more than 10 awards, including 2 Second-Class Awards of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 5 First-Class Awards of the Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science/ Technology Progress Award.
